Base cabinets
General Cabinet Construction
This page outlines information regarding the general construction of our cabinet boxes. Please note that specification drawings are not to scale and are intended for illustrative purposes only. Minor differences between the information here and the final products may exist.
Notes:
- Cabinet boxes are pre-assembled in the factory using a glue and dowel system (screws are added for additional reinforcement in certain areas).
- Cabinet boxes are machine pressed and squared in the factory.
- Boxes are constructed using ¾’’ thick melamine-faced chipboard (MFC).
- Boxes have no exposed wood product surfaces (all faces are melamine or edge banded).
- Legs are included with all base and tall cabinets.
- Legs are composed of plates/receivers (factory installed) and pegs (shipped separately) that can be installed easily on site.
- A rigid surface (e.g. countertop) is expected to be installed on top of all base cabinet boxes on-site.
- Cabinet boxes do not contain any pre-cut holes for utilities and/or appliances.

There is a legend at the bottom of this page describing any variables shown in the schematics below.

Schematic Legend:
The following table clarifies all text variables and annotations shown in the schematics above.
Label/notation | Description/info |
Surface/material 1 | Melamine surface that is the selected box colour/finish. Box edge-banding is also this colour/finish except on the front face. |
Surface/material 2 | Front edge banded surface that is a similar shade/colour to the selected door finish. |
Surface/material 3 | Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS), plastic. |
a | ¾’’ thick side gables (full height of the box), melamine-faced chipboard (MFC). |
b | ¾’’ thick bottom panel, MFC. |
c | ¾’’ thick back panel, MFC. |
d | ¾’’ thick front stretcher panel (base cabinets), MFC. Base cabinets with a top drawer and doors (or top false drawer) may have a secondary internal front stretcher panel located near the bottom of the top drawer front. |
e | ¾’’ thick back stretcher panel (base cabinets), MFC. |
f | ¾’’ thick top panel, MFC. |
g | ¾’’ thick fixed internal shelf. If a tall cabinet has multiple compartments (e.g. a two-door bottom cupboard + a two-door top cupboard) this is located at their interface. Please note that certain tall appliance cabinets may have two internal shelves as they contain 3 separate compartments, with the central compartment hosting an appliance. |
height | Height of the cabinet product (cabinet box + adjustable legs). |
width | Width of the cabinet product (cabinet box only). |
depth | Depth of the cabinet product (cabinet box only, excludes cabinet doors/fronts). |
h-legs | Height of the ABS adjustable legs. |
